Blackadder (1986-2000)
Blackadder is one of the best sitcoms ever, running for 4 series and several specials. Each series was set in a different historic period, with Rowan Atkinson as Blackadder and Tony Robinson as his sidekick Baldrick. Hugh appeared in three of the four series. In the second series, he guest starred in two episodes (different characters). In the third series he was a regular cast member, playing George, the Prince Regent. He was also a regular cast member in the fourth series, playing another George - Lieut. George Colthurst St. Barleigh. Hugh also appeared in most of the specials, usually as someone named George. The series and all specials are available on DVD, at a minimum in the US and the UK. The BBC has an online guide to the series. Another useful site is Blackadder Hall. Blackadder II (Jan/Feb 1986)Series 2 was set at the court of Elizabeth I. For more information, see the BBC Comedy page. Episode 5: Beer (13 Feb 1986)Hugh appeared as Simon Partridge, an Elizabethan frat boy. The 1:29 clip has Simon and friends arriving to wish Blackadder a happy birthday and welcoming Melchett (Stephen Fry) to the party. Capped from TV broadcast.

Blackadder the Third (Sep/Oct 1987)Series 3 was set in Regency England, with Blackadder serving as butler to George, the Prince Regent (played by Hugh). Britain's Best Sitcom (17 Jan 2004)Britain's Best Sitcom was a BBC countdown of the funniest UK sitcoms, as voted by viewers. More information about the series is available on the BBC website. Each of the top 10 sitcoms was rewarded with an hour-long episode devoted to the program; the first of these episodes was devoted to Blackadder, which came in 2nd in the final vote to Only Fools and Horses. The Best Sitcom episode includes many clips from all 4 series, along with comments from Tony Robinson, Tim McInnerney, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Miranda Richardson, Ben Elton, Richard Curtis, John Lloyd, and more. Blackadder: The Whole Rotten Saga (9 Oct 2008)This is a documentary for the 25th anniversary of Blackadder. While it did have apparently new interviews with some of the cast, the interviews with Hugh are from 2004 at the latest, as bits from the same interview were used in the Britain's Best Sitcom episode on Blackadder. (I did screencaps for that, so did not cap this program.)
